Permaculture

Registered to attend an Urban Design Permaculture Workshop in Lawrence May 19. Here's the link.

Now that I have 3 raised beds, a water barrel and a line of trees to espalier--what do I do next. Oh, and then there is the question of winter quarters for the chickens and how to keep them out of the raised beds...so many questions.

Spring

It's spring. Dusted off the bike this week and have ridden to work 2 days in a row. Getting things planted in the garden, chickens are running amok eating the weeds and life feels new again.

New Years Resolutions

I have lots of resolutions for the year summarized by changing the lifestyle-- more music, less tv; more bicycle , less car; more gardening, fewer meetings. The trick is to make those changes work long-term. I had great success last spring with giving up driving for Lent. Then I overestimated my abilities and my achilles tendon became my Achilles Heel.

So back to baby steps, 333 challenge, meatless Mondays, and riding my bike or walking to work.

2011 will be an opportunity for a fresh start.

Google Reader

I just started using Google Reader to keep track of some of the interesting blogs I come across. I have found some fun, not necessarily library related, stuff out there. Google reader lets me find it again. Five weeks in, I'm gaining a little confidence.

Flickr woes

Flickr apparently would not upload my photo to the post by using the URL option. I tried it multiple times. However Flickr has a "blog this" option on their menu which allows you to create a post in Flickr. Anyone else with this problem?

Barta Family membership test

This seems like a very convoluted way to add the picture to my blog. I have to post tio the blog from Flickr? For some reason it is not letting me upload the photo onto the previous post.

Fun with Flickr

Since the dog chewed the cord that connects my camera with my computer, I haven't had a chance to upload anything new. This gave me a chance to try to remember my old Flickr account name and password. By some miracle of searching Flickr, I found my account name and then it was just a matter of trying out my file of passwords until one worked. Now to upload the picture.

Several years ago my grown children were in the process of getting to know their future spouses. We went to Colorado for a long weekend, including a raft trip down our family's favorite rapids. We called it the family membership test. Two of the three potential mates stuck--the other one was toast when she objected to the boys' splashing as we were putting in. We did have fun that day!
